A Must SEE: Dear White People Trailer
Black films may be making a comeback. Its seems that its been over 20 years since America's theaters lineups been filled with African American feature films with an all Black cast that weren't slaves. This Post-Racial America film says aloud what many minorites in society have been saying; "Racism is Not Dead in America." Some may not agree due to the fact they themselves have not yet witness or experienced racism first-hand, or just unaware of it happening.
This is not encourage for people to constantly live on the defense or paranoid that everyone is secretly racist. The advancement for Black America is still an ongoing battle. Some of the Black Community struggles such as education, poverty, and employment still remain. But one of the weapons used by the generations before us during the Civil Rights Movement that we certainly lack today is "unity".
Issues such as colorism or "ligh-skin vs. dark-skin" helps harbor self-hate and separtion in our community. Once we realized that we are all the same just the same as our issues, that is when we will look beyond our personal bias and differences. But to Hollywood Movies and TV give me back the good old days when shows like a A Different World, Moesha, Martin, and Girlfriends filled up my prime time lineup; there were more than just one black film maker allowed to make movies every and not every 5 years.
